Terrorism most definitely strikes fear in many of us because it involves people using violence and intimidation on others to get what they want. Realizing how scary terrorism in the world around us, imagine how scary it would be to have it in your own home. Indeed, many women suffer abuse by their husbands behind the closed doors of a seemingly "perfect" marriage. These women (and their precious children) actually live and hide in a "prison" with guilt, shame, tears, heartaches, paralysis by fear, and often are powerless to stop the cycle of abuse. They yearn to be loved by their husbands and have their feelings be validated instead of struggling with their minds and wondering why "everything" is their fault. Further crazy making thoughts are provoked when the abusive husband most always seems like a nice guy to everyone else. Just the sound of keys jingling as the front door opens can make the wife and children scramble around to hide. Once in hiding, looking under the door to find where the "mean" man's feet are walking brings a flurry of feelings that Anne Frank might have been experienced as she was in hiding during the Holocaust. The juxtaposition of a decision to stay in this type of marriage and witnessing the ill effects and trauma of abuse to herself and her children often brings self-doubt. She is torn. "The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped…" Psalm 28:7. A victim of domestic violence is often set free by experiencing the awesome unconditional love of Jesus Christ. Hopelessly, she holds within her grasp the desire to surrender control of her life to God and to see how He can stretch her in every imaginable way to survive. "And call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me" Psalm 50:15. The personal resurrection of our spiritual life can give us unbelievable joy, hope, trust and faith. We do not have to experience physical death in order to have resurrection in our lives. Easter is a time to remember the greatest event in the history of mankind-the glorious resurrection of our Savior, our Lord, Jesus Christ. It confirms and strengthens our faith and enlivens our hope. "And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives" Romans 6:4. The love of Jesus Christ has the power to take a broken heart and make it whole, give hope where there was none, and to take death and transform it to life. Only the sovereign and gracious God can touch our lives in this way. May we each find freedom from fear and terror in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. All praise and glory to God.
